‘Venetians are at the top in business, not in politics’

Products ‘Made in Veneto’ hold their own on the international stage in terms of the economy and production capacity, which are linked to the region’s heritage (one need only think of the success of certain agri-food brands). But ‘Made in Veneto’ in the political sphere risks being worth far less, even when viewed solely at national level. And it is an unresolved picture that keeps recurring – the one painted by the survey carried out by the Community Media Research laboratory, headed by sociologist Daniele Marini, in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo-Cassa Risparmio del Veneto. ‘GLOBAL HOTSPOT’. In the second half of the 1990s and at the start of the 2000s – or thereabouts – the myth of the North-East had taken hold: a region that was growing rich at a rapid pace and was courted by politicians, public opinion and scholars studying the evolution of society.
