Take, for example, bagged salad. How innovative was this for the Italian consumer? Very. And it’s a product that has taken off. But such innovation required, above all, the manufacturers to define the concept, the packaging and even the supply chain. And there’s more. Take any other agri-food product ‘Made in Veneto’. How can it be made popular abroad too? Giovanni Taliana, president of the Food Section of Confindustria in Padua, offers his recipe for success. ‘We need to invest in research, market studies on the country we’re targeting, and work across the supply chain, because by now even just having your own company website, from which to run an “e-commerce” business, is an outdated way of thinking that’s no longer enough.’
