We live in a country where stereotypes and outdated analyses abound; all too often, reality is interpreted through the lens of the twentieth century – through a lens that belongs to another century and a world that no longer exists.
Today’s Italy has changed far more than is generally realised; long-established traditions have been broken, and both the world of work and that of leisure have fragmented into a myriad of different and personal experiences. The way we measure time – days and weeks – has been revolutionised, as have our desires, needs and value systems.
La Stampa has decided to support the Laboratory on Society and the Territory (whose acronym – LaST – bears a striking resemblance to our own name, which we are naturally delighted about) because we believe it offers a wonderful opportunity to recognise and document the major shifts taking place in Italy and amongst Italians.
To get to know each other better, thanks to all of your contributions, and to try to understand where we’re heading and where we might go.
