Transformations happen that escape our attention, caught up as we are in the rapid flow of everyday life or caught up in emergencies. More often, however, changes follow subterranean, almost karstic lines: we are only able to grasp them when they rise to the surface. But then it may be too late to channel or govern them. The metaphor is useful to try to understand what was revealed by the third survey of the Monitor sul Lavoro carried out by Community Media Research for Federmeccanica (www.federmeccanica.it), an analysis aimed at narrating changes in workers' orientations and work cultures.
Subjectivity at work
The dimensions of work-related relationships and subjectivity are central in the collective imagination and in the daily experience of workers. In this sense, the locution 'the person at the centre' is not rhetorical, nor does it respond to a do-gooder sentiment, but it shows how processes of individualisation have also taken hold in work cultures.
