With just a few weeks to go before the vote to elect the new European Parliament, concern is growing about an anti-EU orientation. A crisis that still bites families and businesses; a growth that takes off too slowly and generates unemployment that affects the younger generations in particular; a difficulty in managing complex phenomena such as migration and integration. These are some of the aspects that bedevil the common European house, tangled knots that feed the demands of those who would like to leave the Union and return to individual nation states or hypothetical macro-regions of peoples.<\/p>\n

We have been able to observe the spread of this malaise in the various elections (regional and national) held recently in some European countries. In Italy, the political debate around this deadline is considered more for its thermometer effect against the Renzi government and to measure the strengths of the different parties, rather than for an in-depth reflection on EU policies and perspectives.<\/p>\n

Concerned about the negative sentiment, political exponents are tending to mark a more or less profound difference from the EU, when it does not result as in the case of the M5S and Lega in an open call to leave the Union, the euro, blandishing independence petitions. If we exclude President Napolitano's speech on the role, importance and value of belonging to the European Union, even with all the difficulties, there are still lukewarm voices emphasising the achievements and positive results of belonging to the common house of Europeans. And this not only in view of the electoral deadline on 25 May, but also of the presidency that Italy will assume in the next European semester in July.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
