The crisis facing the trade unions: trust continues to wane. Only 16 per cent of workers say they believe the unions are protecting the interests of those on fixed-term contracts. Marini: \u201cBut there are examples of renewal.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the one hand, the world of work is changing at an incredible pace, but precisely for this reason, opinion polls show that it feels the need for safeguards, support services and strong representation, particularly during corporate restructuring. On the other hand, there are those who have always represented the world of work \u2013 by profession \u2013 and who, in turn, know they must change radically because their primary \u2018clients\u2019 are paying them less and less attention. One figure in particular stands out when looking at the graphs from the new survey published by the Community Media Research laboratory and its scientific director, the Vicenza-based sociologist Daniele Marini (carried out in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo-Cassa di Risparmio del Veneto). Namely, that in only 16 per cent of cases (-2 per cent compared with two years ago) do the workers interviewed say that, in their view, the trade unions are protecting workers\u2019 interests.<\/p>\n
