Marini: workers are calling for a say<\/p>\n
Daniele Marini, a sociologist at the University of Padua, presented the results of a survey carried out among 1,300 workers and around a thousand business owners. Business owners are calling for greater autonomy in collective bargaining (78.1 per cent) at company level, whilst 59.8 per cent of workers share this view. In addition, 15.9 per cent and 19.1 per cent, respectively, would prefer collective bargaining to take place solely at company level. According to the research carried out by Community Media Research, workers view the company as their home; they would like a minimum wage and pay rises renegotiated at company level. \u2018Better trained and better paid\u2019 is the challenge accepted by 50 per cent of the sample. Workers believe in their company and want to have a greater say in decision-making. And for young workers (under 34), a satisfying job matters more than a permanent contract.<\/p>\n
